New Policy Means Credit Trouble for Shenzheners Who Run Red Lights

Shenzhen is really cracking down this on traffic violations this summer. Chinese media reported on August 25 that Shenzhen's traffic police bureau is working with a number of credit unions on a new policy: those caught running red lights or violating other traffic laws' credit scores will be affected. This may affect big purchases like buying a house difficult for repeat violators.

Earlier this month, Shenzhen traffic police forced jaywalkers to help direct traffic while wearing culturally stigmatized “green hats.” They also collected information on jaywalkers, and determined which zodiac signs are most likely make an illegal crossing (I see you, Libras!).
