New Laws for Metro Troublemakers in Shanghai

New Laws for Metro Troublemakers in Shanghai
Apr 22, 2014 By eChinacities.com

Strict new laws will come into effect on the Shanghai Metro system to control order. Those who refuse to comply with security checks, or cause public disturbances, could end up serving jail time.

In the past, security was relatively lax and punishment was reserved for people who carried forbidden items onto the subway, however as Song Youguo, deputy director of Shanghai Metro Police announced:

“Our staff will decide which bags have to go through the checks. Anyone who disobeys them or behaves aggressively or violently in such a way as to disrupt public security will face punishment, including penal detention,”

The new regulations will also extend to staff members. Those whose checks aren’t stringent enough will be dismissed.

This year alone 1,900 knives, 165,000 firecrackers and 88 replica guns have been confiscated across the national Subway network.

The security checks at the Subways in Shanghai are completely useless and a waste of people's time. Up to date, there has been nothing really accomplished by these security checks. The majority of the people believe it is not needed and unnecessary. By forcing people to put their bags through the xray machine when they do not wish to do so is a violation of people's rights. For those who do not wish to put their bag or items through the machine, the security will wrongfully confiscate it and abuse their position giving the person a lot of hassle. Forcing people to put their bags through is an abuse of rights and the Shanghai Metro should get rid of this. They should look toward other international countries and understand that not many other countries and cities do this. What should be banned in Shanghai and the overall china is smoking. Unfortunately, you will find the police smoking in non smoking areas.
