New Discount Channels on Selected Shenzhen Subway Stations to Avoid Fraud
Nov 12, 2014 By eChinacities.com

Passengers using the subway on Shenzhen’s discount card (for example the student one) need to pay attention to a change in ticketing: from November 12, at Taoyuan Station on Line 1, Huaqiang Bei Station on Line 2, Nanlian Station on Line 3, and Changlong Station on Line 5 there is now officially a different channel for those traveling with the discount card.

If you are traveling on the discount card, therefore, you can only enter or exit through these special lanes, so please pay attention to the signs.

The lanes are technically not very different, but have some specs to try and avoid fraudulent use of the cards. For example, if you swipe a student discount card, the machine will activate a voice message echoing ‘student card’. Someone will check to make sure you are actually a student if you are deemed to not look like one.
