Nearly 1,000 Almighty God Members Arrested in Crack Down
Aug 20, 2014 By eChinacities.com

Nearly 1,000 people believed to be members of the Almighty God religious sect have been arrested in the past three months, the Guardian reports.

Althought the religious group has been banned for several years, the renewed crackdown was kicked off after a woman was brutally beaten to death by members of the cult in May.

The arrests have taken place across six different provinces, and include ‘high level organisers and ‘backbone members’ of the group.

According to Xinhua News agency, five members of the cult are due to go on trial on Thursday for the May murder of 37 year old Wu Shuoyan.
