Nanjing: 24 Bus Stop Shelters Stolen in One Night
Jul 30, 2014 By eChinacities.com

24 bus stop shelters weighing over 200 kilograms each were stolen in one night in what police believe is a sting operation by professional welders. The shelters were installed only nine days previously, and were worth a total of 1.4 million RMB.

According to the police report, the thieves did a pretty neat job using specialized tools, leading them to suspect that it was professionals. The whole operation must also have been logistically tricky as several trucks would have been needed to transport the bus shelters.

Nanjing had planned to build 45 bus shelters in the area as part of the Jiangbei Road project. Their plans have now been scuppered, as only 1 of the 25 shelters installed remains.
