Microsoft Allegedly Fined 140 Million USD

Microsoft Allegedly Fined 140 Million USD
Nov 28, 2014 By eChinacities.com

Microsoft in China has just been fined 140 million USD, or 840 million RMB, for tax evasion, Reuters reports, in China’s first major cross-border tax evasion case.

However, Microsoft has not been officially named in reports, as an article published by Xinhua only mentioned a US multinational whose name starts with ‘M’ , is one of the world’s biggest firms, and established an entirely foreign-owned subsidiary in Beijing in 1995. Logical deducation leads to Microsoft.

Microsoft and China have not had the best relationship in the past with its software being banned from government computers over spying concerns, and unfortunately for Microsoft, it looks like there will not be any changes in attitudes in the near future.

Despite me thinking this is probably completely selective retaliation over a BS excuse, banning all MS products (or any proprietary software for that matter) from government systems is a sane move that every nation should follow.
