Xiamen sits to the south of Fujian Province, enjoying a subtropical climate, which ensures it has an average annual temperature exceeding 20C. In summer conditions can get very uncomfortable, with high humidity and average July maximums of 33C (92F). The cooler months are mild, with average daytime temperatures reaching 18C (64F) in January. Rain is far heavier in the summer months than in winter, and the region is often affected by typhoons at this time.
