Location and Climate

Shanghai is located in the Yangtze River Delta at approximately 31°41' north latitude and 121°29' east longitude. The East China Sea lies to the east of Shanghai, and Hangzhou Bay to the south. The city enjoys a pleasant northern subtropical maritime monsoon climate, and has four distinct seasons. Seasons between summer and winter are relatively short. Summer temperatures often hit 32ºC, while winter daytime maximums in January are around 7C (45F), with night temperatures just below freezing. During July and September, strong storms with torrential rain become frequent.
