Last Days of 2015: Haze & Fog in North China, Rain in South China

North China and Huanghuai will experience cold air, pollution, and fog from December 28 to 30, and on January 1, according to the Central Meteorological Observatory. A number of areas will experience a pollution wave lasting the next four to seven days. South China will experience rainy weather.

Beijing, Tianjin, central and southern Hebei, northern Henan, and Shandong will experience moderate haze from December 28-30, with some local areas experiencing severe haze. Beijing will experience mild to moderate haze from December 27-30. The southern area of the city will experience severe haze, with a minimum visibility of 1km. The city’s average PM2.5 readings will peak at about 280, but will be 350 in the southern districts. During the night, and the morning, the city will also be covered in thick fog and visibility will be less than 500 meters.

Chongqing, northern Guizhou, northern Hunan, northern Jiangxi and Fujian will experience heavy fog on the morning of December 27.

In the next ten days, some areas of North China and Huanghuai will continue to experience fog or haze, with low visibility in a number of areas.

In the last few days of 2015, South China will continue to experience rainy weather. Guangxi and its surrounding areas will experience light to moderate rain. In the next three days, temperatures in South China will drop significantly.

Light rain will hit western Guizhou, eastern and southern Yunnan, Taiwan, Fujian and other areas between the morning of the 27th and the morning of the 28th.
