Illegal Cabs Could Lose Their Vehicles According to New Laws
Apr 23, 2014 By eChinacities.com

Shanghai is really toughening up its traffic laws with a crack-down on illegal cabs being discussed by the Shanghai People’s Congress.

The police will now have the power to permanently confiscate ‘cloned taxis’ – which look like real cabs but don’t have the legal paperwork – on sight, even if they aren’t doing anything illegal at the time. Black cabs won’t be regulated quite so strictly, but drivers will face confiscation of their vehicle if they offend repeatedly.

In an interesting twist, the police will also have the right to sell off the cars they impound, which sounds like a sure fire recipe for corruption malpractice.
