Hangzhou Police Have Started Randomly Checking Cars at G20 Security Checkpoints

It seems like a good idea to avoid driving in Hangzhou during the G20 summit.

Hangzhou has set up 172 security checkpoints on roads and highways in preparation for the upcoming G20 summit. The Hangzhou G20 summit will be held from September 4-5, 2016. The Hangzhou Public Security Bureau announced the new checkpoints started running on July 15. Drivers have their relevant documents at all times while driving in the city.

Police said that the checkpoints are currently occasionally screening random cars. In the future, the number of screenings will increase. During the summit, all cars will be checked.

Drivers must come to a full stop, open their windows on both sides, show their ID card and drivers’ license and the ID cards of any passengers. The driver must keep their hands on the steering wheel during inspection. Police will then look in the trunk of the car. If the trunk is clean, the inspection will be very quick. It should take a small car five minutes to get through the security checkpoint.

For a coach bus, the driver and all passengers must show their ID cards. Passengers with luggage must get off the bus and put their bags through an X-ray machine. It will take about 20 minutes to screen a coach bus.
