We ran a story at the end of February reporting on a ‘baby safety island’ which had opened up in Guangzhou. The facility provided a space where parents to leave their unwanted offspring.

However, the operation has now had to be suspended until further notice due to overcrowding. In the past 50 days they have received 262 babies and they cannot manage the load of anymore. Of the 262 babies, 91 percent have survived, despite many of them coming in with serious illnesses.

The plan is to open more of these centers around China to be able to save more lives, help the adoption process and to develop a Child Welfare System to provide for these precious castaways.
