Guangzhou Metro Issues Mother-to-be badges for Pregnant Passengers
May 27, 2014 By eChinacities.com

Guangzhou passengers rejoice! Never again will you have to suffer the embarrassment of offering your seat to a heavily set lady only to find out that a) she isn’t actually pregnant and b) she now hates you.

The powers that rule over the Guangzhou Metro system have made the decision to offer badges that identify pregnant passengers. The badge will also allow them to receive special help from metro staff, should they need it.

The authorities are hoping that the badges will encourage other commuters not to push and shove pregnant women and to more readily offer up their seat, as pregnancy is not always very obvious, especially during the early stages when many women suffer from morning sickness and dizziness.

The badges are reusable and the metro asks that the mothers-to-be return the badges so that they can be given out to other pregnant women. To get a badge, just head to the customer services desk at any Guangzhou metro station.
