Fighting Cyber Terror Discussed at Wuzhen Internet Conference
Nov 21, 2014 By eChinacities.com

The first ever Internet Conference was held in Wuzhen this week, and many important conclusions were drawn at the conference, one of these focused on fighting the evils on the internet: cyber terror.

Ecns news writes that the Internet has become a major tool for terrorists, also in China. Gu Jianguo, the director of the MPS cyber security and protection bureau was quoted as saying “cyber terrorism has emerged as a new form of terrorism in this digital age... the Internet has become an important tool and channel for organizing, inciting and launching terror activites”.

Evidence for this was found in police investigations following up on the 2013 Tian’anmen Square attack and the attacks in Kunming Railway Station, all of which were found to have been influenced by videos featuring extremist ideologies.

To fight cyber terrorism, the conference called for global recognition of the presence of terrorist-related activity on the internet, and for the international community to decide on a definition of cyber terrorism in order to better identify it.
