A Zhe, a 13-year-old boy from Dongguan, has grown up with a slightly different companion than most children – a python. When he was born, the snake was already six years old and weighed more than 20 kg. Due the coolness of its skin, the python became the boy’s personal air conditioner during the hot summers, sleeping in the same bed as him. When the weather is nicer outside, A Zhe takes the snake out for walks (or slithers) around town. The boy says that he’d never asked his parents for toys during his entire childhood, as he already had the company of his “old pal”.
