The founder of Crazy English, Li Yang has converted to Buddhism under the tutelage of Shaolin temple abbot, Shi Yongxin.

Li, who now is perhaps more famous for being sued by his American wife in a landmark domestic violence case, had a conversion ceremony on the morning of July 26, before donating 10,000 English books to a local Zhengzhou charity.

He also committed to providing English training to monks at the temple.

In a Weibo article announcing his newfound faith, he stated that the ‘wisdom’ he has been seeking for many years has been found in Buddhism. He also encouraged readers to embrace the ‘beautiful world of Buddhism’ and ‘learn English well to promote and spread China and Chinese culture’ .
