Chinese Teen Poisons Parents after Imposing Video Game Curfew

Li Tao, a teenager from Jiyuan, Henan was under constant nagging from his parents to cut down on the amount of time he spent in internet cafes and get on with his school work. One day, Li noticed that there was a bottle of pesticide in his house, and thought that if he slipped it into his parent’s food, they’d be admitted to hospital meaning he’d be free to play away as he liked. Presumably underestimating the potency of the poison, Li later returned home to find both his parents dead. After being convicted and tried, Li is now serving a fifteen year prison sentence. It’s also worth noting that this incident occurred back in 2008, though the story only came to light in the Chinese media this week. The reason for this is possibly due to its cautionary tale-esque flavor in light of similar internet-related tragedy stories, with the last line of the story reading “Li now faces a lifetime of suffering with guilt and pain.”
