Chinese Shocked by Kate Middleton's Public Postpartum Appearance

Chinese Shocked by Kate Middleton's Public Postpartum Appearance
May 12, 2015 By eChinacities.com

Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, made a public appearance last week less than 10 hours after giving birth, shocking Chinese Netizens. Numerous Netizens questioned why Kate did not follow traditional practices of confinement after birth, which in turn shocked Americans. The Los Angeles Post recently devoted an article introducing Americans to the concept of traditional Chinese month of  confinement after childbirth, or zuo yuezi. A number of Chinese and foreign couples were interviewed and spoke of their culture shock surrounding the custom.

The article said that many Chinese people were surprised that others do not follow the custom. How can a brand new mother have time to do her hair? Her make-up? How can she wear high heels? And when she goes out, she has to take her newborn baby with her!

The Los Angeles Post described the “rules,” of zuo yuezi. There are several strict rules that new mothers have complied with for centuries in China. There are rules for what to wear, what to drink, what to eat, and so on. The term, “zuo yezi,” literally means, “to sit for one month after birth.”

It seems that this deletion of posts started with the new feature "Report Abuse". Are you noticing the number of wumao comments suddenly decreased? My guess is that they are abusing the "Report Abuse" feature. These cowardly morons ran out of words and use the "Report Abuse" to delete posts. What ecc should do is to have these cowards state their accusations in open, read other commenters' responses, see who can substantiate their claims with valid, rational arguments before making any decisions, instead of being used by wumaos as a censorship tool.
