The United Kingdom has become the third largest exporter of online goods in the world, second to the United States and China, according to statistics released by PayPal. The biggest factor in the growth of the UK’s online export market is the number of buyers from China.

In the past 12 months, 86.4 million international buyers have purchased British goods online. Of these, 21.9 million were Chinese. The second largest group of spenders were Americans, a small group compared to the Chinese at 9.1 million.

59 percent of Chinese buyers purchased British clothing, footwear and accessories online. 57 percent purchased cosmetics and other beauty products, and 42 percent purchased food and alcohol. Chinese buyers said that they chose to buy British goods online because of the “authenticity of the goods,” and “secure payment.”
