China’s First Domestically Produced Jet Gets Certified
Dec 31, 2014 By eChinacities.com

China has taken its first step into the jet production market as its first domestically produced jet was certified last week.

The ARJ21-700 has been certified by the Civil Aviation Administration of China according to Aviation Week. It can now fly domestic routes but still has a way to go in terms of the international market. The jet has yet to get international approval from international regulatory boards such as the FAA.

The certification is the result of 12 years of development and the ARJ21-700 is due to enter service in April or May next year. Chengdu Airlines will be the first company to utilize the new jet.

Comac, the company that developed the ARJ21-700 is also working on a bigger, 168-seat narrow bodied jet to rival the Boeing 737 and the A320 Airbus.
