An Australian teacher named David was recently deported for growing marijuana in his Changshu home.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported that David was in fact lucky because he “escaped,” serving jail time in China.
In a video published by the Chinese media, police say that they received a report from the teacher's neighbor.
David confessed that he had been growing cannabis for three months, and that he had purchased the seeds and a guide book online. Police found tools in David's apartment for cultivating marijuana including heat lamps and fans.
David's face is obscured in the video. He says that he has lived in China for 14 years.
He was detained for 13 days and deported on May 18. He is banned from re-entering China for one year.
ABC believes that the government is sending a message through the story, reported by Xinhua. ABC said that the Chinese government intends to show their determination to further their anti-drug campaign.

I think I saw that David guy selling his wares in donghu road once. nice guy and gave a decent price too. He'll be missed that fella.

Your neighbors sound like my friend's old neighbor. My friend lived next to a nut job who would scream to himself when in his apartment alone, sing, and scream F your mother to the clouds but came to my friend's door shrieking at 11 p.m. because my friend "was too noisy walking down the stairs" in his apartment. The guy was expecting to bully someone but was shocked to see a foreigner who wasn't going to back down to his tough guy act.
