Apr 08, 2014 By eChinacities.com

By May 1 Changsha’s underground will see the first batch of a new branch of the metro police, featuring riot gear. Line 2 will be used to test the new system which will feature these new cops at five of the stations, each in a different district and each linked to its own police station.

The police are equipped and trained for a variety of incidents, including natural disasters, accidents, public health issues and four kinds of social security emergencies. Line 2 runs from 06:30 until 21:30 every day so the officers will be putting in strenuous 15 hour long shifts. The move comes as Chinese cities look to up security in public spaces, such as metros, in light of the March 1 Kunming incident.
