Brief Intro to Shijiazhuang Shopping

Shijiazhuang holds its own in the commercial sector with a carefully cultivated array of local products. The city's largest industries include ceramics, paper cuttings (mainly depicting famous scenes from Chinese history and literature), Liuling "wine" (a lethal rice brew), delicately painted snuffboxes, delicious pears, and various white marble carvings imported from nearby counties. The commercial center of Shijiazhuang runs just north of the railway station, all along Zhongshan Lu and running into eastern Jiefang Lu. There are numerous department stores and shops along this stretch, and Saturdays see it heaving with crowds. For something a little more local, both Ningrong Jie and Yong'an Jie, have various shops and stalls, good for both dining and cheap goods.
