Beijing Transport Ticket Hikes: 3:1 Ratio for Subway and Bus Fares
Jul 17, 2014 By eChinacities.com

Beijing Public Transport Group have suggested new bus and subway fares at a ratio of 3:1. That is, bus fares should cost a third of subway tickets, so if bus fares are raised to 2 RMB, then subway fares will be 6 RMB.

Transport prices are currently at the pre-Olympics level, when the municipal government lowered bus prices to just 4 Mao, and subway tickets to 2 RMB regardless of the distance.

Other suggestions have included introducing a tiered ticketing system like in Shanghai, where the price of the ticket depends on the length of the journey, however, these suggestions were not very popular at all.
