Beijing Tightens Airport Security, Implements New Check-In Guidelines
Aug 19, 2015 By eChinacities.com

As of August 20, all domestic passengers on flights out of Beijing Capital Airport must check in for their flight 45 minutes before take-off.

The new rule comes from a combination of heightened security at the airport which will include more rigorous security checks, and an effort to promote smoother travel for passengers as walking distance to gates is often quite long.

International flights will remain the same: passengers must check in 60 minutes before departure.

Hainan Airlines and China Southern Airlines both already require passengers to check in 45 minutes before take-off.

Airport security has also been tightened. Lithium batteries, mobile charging packs, lighters, and matches are no longer allowed to be carried in checked luggage. Passengers found carrying these contraband items risk having their items confiscated and their luggage not put on the plane with them.
