Beijing’s temperatures have soared, and swimming pools throughout the city are overcrowded. However, alternative swimming pools have emerged near Mapaoquan Business Hotel in Fangshan District.

In the middle of the woods and grass fields, there is a pool where everybody likes to swim naked. They are enjoying the sun and chatting. Perhaps not surprising, it looks like the majority of patrons are men.

One of the patrons called it ‘men’s paradise’. Women do not come here, and one local woman said that she was accustomed to deliberately avoiding the area. The men who come here to swim come from all different walks of life; they are white-collar workers, factory workers, tricycle drivers, private sector workers and migrant workers.

Those who don’t want to swim come to admire the surroundings. Because the swimming pool is actually a natural spring, its surroundings are very picturesque, allowing swimmers to relax and remove themselves from busy city life.
