Beijing Ranked Amongst Unfriendliest Cities in the World
Aug 16, 2014 By eChinacities.com

Conde Nast recently conducted a traveler’s survey featuring the ten unfriendliest cities in the world and Beijing, unfortunately and surprisingly, was ranked 6th, there behind Johannesburg, Cannes, Moscow, Paris and Marseille.

‘Terrible pollution’ and ‘dirty streets’ were cited as reasons for the unfavourable ranking, and it was noted that they detracted from the beauty of the cities many historical sites. Three of the highest ranking unfriendly cities were in France.

Other reasons that earned various cities their spot in the top ten were ‘rude people’ (Paris, Frankfurt and Moscow); ‘ostentatious’ (Cannes and Monaco) and ‘unsafe’ (Johannesburg and Nassau).

I disagree about Paris and Frankfurt being unfriendly. In both cities i have been helped by locals - with luggage etc. And a smile and a few words in French and German work wonders. The same in any European city i have been in. In Beijing i have been pushed past by locals while struggling with heavy bags and ignored when i speak the minimal Chinese i know.

I have to agree with rude behavior.... I noticed it more when I first came here, but now I just tune it out or flip the rude person off tell them to f**k themselves, and just go about my business. But I understand a visitor's view. Rude ignorant behavior is bad for future business.

For 'unfriendly' I think it was more to do with the people rather than the pollution. Maybe it was more to do with the racistcomments foreigners have to put up with when they come to this country.
