On the evening of March 18, Mr Wang of Jingzhou was happily enjoying an after-dinner evening stroll when he suddenly heard the cry of a baby emanating from the soil nearby the ancient city walls. After rushing over, Wang located the origin of the crying and dug up a baby that had been buried in the soil. Wang then called the police who later rushed the baby to hospital for treatment, where it currently remains in a critical condition.
It turned out that the child was born on March 16 with a serious heart condition. After being told by their local hospital that the child has very slim chances of survival, the grandparents decided to take the baby to another hospital only to be given the same news. Upon their return to the hometown, the grandparents noticed that the child stopped breathing and, assuming the boy had died, buried him. Police are currently investigating the situation as a potential intended homicide case, with the grandparents likely to bear criminal responsibility.
