Police successfully rescued a girl who had been taken hostage by two Kunming men armed with knives this morning. The men had hijacked a bus and taken the girl as a hostage. The incident occurred on Kungming's Nanping West Street.
The men parked the hijacked double-decker bus on the road and hung two white banners reading, “Henan villagers seek an explanation,” off the side. Armed and special police rushed to the scene and sealed off the road.
Witnesses reported that police used a “bomb blast.” Those at the scene heard two loud bangs, most likely used to scare and confuse the kidnappers. The police entered the bus and rescued the hostage, who was unharmed. The suspects were apprehended and arrested by police.
