The city of Yinchuan covers an area of 9,555.38 square km and has a population of 1.99 million (2010), with 2 counties, one city and three districts under its jurisdiction. The urban area of Yinchuan is 107 square kilometers with a population of 1.285 million (2010). Among the city’s permanent residents, there are 1,031,754 males and 961,334 females, accounting for 51.77% and 48.23% of the total population respectively. About 56 ethnic minority groups live in the city including Hui, Han, Mongol, Manchu and Chaoxian. The Hui population is around 0.46 million, which accounts for nearly a quarter of the inhabitants.
