Shanghai covers a total area of 6,340.5 square kilometers, of which the city proper occupies an area of 3925 square kilometers. In 2009, Nanhui District was merged into Pudong New Area. On June, 8th, 2011, another administrative division adjustment was made in Shanghai. Luwan District and Huanpu District were merged into today's Huangpu District. Shanghai is now composed of sixteen districts and one country. Shanghai is one of the most populous cities in China. It is estimated that Shanghai's population totaled 23.02 million at the end of 2010. The ratio of males to females is 106.18. 22.74 million residents are of the Han ethnicity, 98.8% of the population. The minority population of 0.275million accounts for 1.2% of the population.
