Qingdao has a total area of 11,282 square kilometers and a population reaching 8.715 million (by the end of 2010). The Han ethnic group is by far the largest in the city, with approximately 0.38% considered to belong to Chinese ethnic minority groups. Qingdao also has a lot of expats from Japan, Korea and beyond. The city's living standards are regarded as among the highest in China, due to the city's thriving export business and higher than average household incomes.
