This weekend, Canadian Prime Minister Harper announced a new deal while in Beijing, creating a revenue sharing joint venture between Air Canada and Air China. It is likely that within a few weeks, a direct flight between Beijing and Calgary will be announced.
The goal of the flight is to stimulate traffic growth between the two countries, and it would be Calgary’s second direct flight to Asia (the other one is the Air Canada flight to Tokyo). The direct flight to Beijing would give direct access to the Chinese market, for business and tourism.
