Manchester City vs. United Match Cancelled in Beijing Due to Poor Pitch Conditions
Jul 26, 2016 By eChinacities.com

The International Champions Cup match between Manchester City and Manchester United was suddenly cancelled on Monday due to poor weather and field conditions in Beijing. A number of disappointed fans gathered at Beijing’s Bird’s Nest Stadium.

The 19:30 match was cancelled at 15:00 that same day. The International Cup posted an official notice and the two clubs confirmed the cancellation on Twitter. Fans questioned why the match was cancelled. Despite massive rainstorms earlier in the week, on Monday at noon, the weather was sunny in the capital. Chinese and foreign fans gathered at outside the stadium when the press release went out. A number of fans had come from overseas to view the match.

A reporter from the Daily Economic News said that because of the recent harsh weather in Beijing, the field was not in suitable condition for play. The clubs decided to cancel the match for the sake of the safety of the players.

The International Champions Cup usually consists of five league teams who compete in the pre-season tournament.
