A 40 year old man who phoned police with a bomb hoax when he was drunk has been sentenced to jail time.

The hoax caused mass panic and traffic jams on August 28 in Xueyuan Road where Mr Xu claimed the bomb had been placed. 50 officers arrived on the scene to search for the bomb, but found nothing. When they traced the call they found Xu in a hotel room and held him there under police custody until the morning.

He later told police that he had played the prank because he was drunk and in a bad mood.

Huangpu District court sentenced him to a year in prison on December 16.
