England’s The Times collaborated with Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a UK company that specializes in higher education reports and studies, to research a ranking of the top universities in the world for the year 2009. They published their results on the 8th of this month, with American and UK universities sweeping the top spots on the list. Hong Kong, China has three universities that made it into the top 50, and Tsinghua University is the only university in mainland China that made it into the list’s top 50.

Tokyo University was ranked 22nd and was the top ranked university in Asia. Hong Kong University was ranked 24th, and the other two Hong Kong universities that made the list were Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (35th place) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (46th place).

Tsinghua University climbed to 49th place, up seven spots from its previous ranking of 56th place, making it into the top 50 for the first time.

@Anonymous: which part do you disagree with? I think it's interesting that China still ranks Bei Da as number one but Tsinghua beat it (by three places) in the global rankings.
