Salvador's Coffee House

Salvador's Coffee House

So you have finally come to the point in your trip where you want a decent cup of coffee and Nescafe just won’t suffice anymore? You want to sit outside and chat about life while sipping on a delicious cup of Java in the clean Kunming air? Well then Salvador’s Coffee House may just be what the doctor ordered.

The idea started with Kris Ariel and Colin Flahive while they were living 300 km away in Dali, Yunnan. They wanted to start a place with a funky atmosphere, good coffee, and since both were inspired by the work of Salvador Dali and they were in Dali at the time, the idea for Salvador’s Coffee house was born. In 2004 they teamed up with some others to make the idea reality in Kunming.

This place is famous in Kunming by locals as being the best place to get a good cup of coffee. The selection is dizzying and they actually use real imported espresso machines by Nuova Simonelli, to be exact. But the coffee here is made from Yunnan’s best coffee, the best in the region. Whether you are craving cappuccino or mocha, latte or macchiato, this place won’t disappoint. If you aren’t a coffee drinker there are fresh teas for you to drink instead. There are three types of special Yunnan teas, the Yunnan Green, the Yunnan Black, and the Yunnan Aged Pu-er.

If you are just hungry and it’s been awhile since you have a burrito you can take the Tex-Mex route and get your fill on quesadillas with their real homemade salsa. Head upstairs and make yourself at home on their sofas with the other customers while you snack on their homemade ice creams with real fruit added.

If it’s late enough and you just need to kick back and enjoy happy hour, their early bird 4pm-8pm time slot might be what you are looking for after a long day of hiking around the Stone Forest. Try their screwdriver made with real fresh squeezed orange juice for 10 Yuan. If you fancy something different, you can get a Gin and Tonic or a Rum and Coke for the same price.

For something cozy and a little bit different, try Salvador’s Coffee House for a good backpacker and expat hang out.
