Quatuor Diotima, a string quartet based in Paris, will perform at the Fuzhou Grand Theatre this May as part of the 2012 Festival Croisements. Featuring violinists Zhao Yunpeng and Guillaume Latour, violist Franck Chevalier and cellist Pierre Morlet, the quartet has earned a strong reputation in performing repertory classics as well as contemporary pieces. The site on which the modern city of Fuzhou now sits has been continually occupied since the first settlement was founded here over 2000 years ago in 202 BC when the Fujian region was known as Minyue. Fuzhou is well connected to the rest of Fujian Province by the road and rail networks, which stretch across the whole of the country and connect the city with the larger Chinese destinations.
