Also running across a busy road where there is a traffic warden is funny too - the guy chased me for about 4 blocks blowing his whistle like a mad-man, Then he caught me and said.......................... "tig". : )

when they say eat another man's wife I think that's slang for sex. That's what people were saying in China. I hope it doesn't pertain to cannabalism

I would guess it would go something like this....
"Well, you see sir, your wife was naked on the bed as I was hanging up a painting, and , well, you see, I was wearing my best clothes and didnt want them to get dirty. Anyway, I slipped and fell. The good news was that your wife cushioned my fall, the bad news was that..."

Blue Laws would only make it illegal to eat your wife on Sundays.

"Thou shalt not eat another man’s wife… intentionally"

Kind of a western double standard there....It implies that it is solely the man's fault...When truthfully if the woman is married and the man is single...The liability is primarily the woman's for intentionally having extramarital affairs.

Thou shalt not stop at a pedestrian crossing? Well that explains it all. I will stop using them immediately. Silly me - I thought it was just a little safer than maybe jaywalking. But isn't there a fine for that as well?
How about: Thou shalt not cross a road safely......ever?
In line with this rule let's make another (if it doesn't already exist):
Thou shalt have installed on your motor vehicle the loudest horn possible?

DaqingDevil. Love your post! I couldn't stop laughing. Haha! How many times have I applied the "western traffic laws thinking" to this country and have nearly been run-over. You're right, that does definitely explain it. I love Mao's saying, "ren duo, liliang da." It is the same as "power in numbers." I look for where everyone else is and then I take the initiative to cross. It is awesome how the Chinese like to follow the leader. Try it sometime. Next time you are waiting at a crosswalk with multiple Chinese people, be the first to start to cross. Everyone will follow. It is as if everyone is just waiting for a leader. Once you start, everyone else follows. You can stop traffic. "ren duo, liliang da!" Sheep. Every person is a sheep waiting to be hearded. So, Westerners, let's heard the cattle. They are simpletons. Robots. I struggle with their abilities on a daily basis. Been here for two years and only found a handful of individuals who can actually think on their own. Maybe Hong Kong and Shanghai are different. Dunno.

Dating a colleague? That's a law that should apply world wide. The result would be a lower divorce rate and a far happier, less dramatic workplace.

7) Thou shalt not name thy children strangely !!
Hallelujah! Not so weird is this law. Certainly not as weird as names thrust upon unsuspecting newborns in the western world like:
Fifi Trixibelle
Sage Moonblood
Ocean
Blanket brother of Prince Michael 1st
Dweezil
And the list goes on. Better to be in the playground with names like Wang and Tan than have someone calling you by any of the names listed above.
China got this law right and I suggest it is adopted by the rest of the world.

You should be able to name your kid anything you want to.
When they get old enough they can change their name if they want to.
I've seen some really weird Chinese names so, I guess alot of people aren't following that law?

Foot-binding ended with the establishment of the Republic of China in 1911, not in 1949. The writer has gotton his revolutions confused.

Foot-ending was originally outlawed with the establishment of the Republic of China in 1912 (not 1911), but it was not ended (except perhaps in a few cities). The practiced continued in the majority of the country until after the Communist Revolution. This is both because the CCP was the first group to truly exercise authority over the whole of China after the collapse of the Qing Dynasty and because they upped the punishment for foot binding to death.

...an employee’s salary is higher than 15,000 RMB per month, they are exempt from all rules. Who comes up with this stuff?

Of course the rich come up with this stuff; they can 1) stop anywhere 2) store & explode 3) eat for pleasure 4) date by right 5) internationalize thy vice 6) espy & trade 7) name & frame 8) bind & sell 9) show the finger to passing cars 10) indiscriminately say laowai

I assume that my comments posted then taken off show that many rules and laws involve self censorship on a site like this. I'm told you have been closed down by the communist [?] party before when you have "stepped over the line"
.Knowing what you can or cannot say in China of course involves unwritten rules.Try talking about sex, politics or religion and see how far you get.

I believe I'm right in surmising that eChinaCities is trying to keep as up-to-date as possible. In order to relieve the servers, I believe all the posts, news items and articles written prior to the Tang dynasty have been removed.
