A visitor to a zoo in Luohe City, Henan Province was shocked to discover that the zoo had used a Tibetan Mastiff dog in place of a lion, clearly thinking visitors are too stupid to notice.

The discovery was made on August 12 when Ms. Liu brought her six year old son Dongdong to the zoo inside People’s Park. While wandering through the zoo, Dongdong would ask the name of each animal. When they got to the lion enclosure, they both discovered that the fluffy animal inside was clearly a Tibetan Mastiff even though the sign outside the enclosure read “African lion”. 

Soon, Ms. Liu discovered that this wasn’t the only case of displaying wrong animals. In one cage named “Nationally Protected Leopard”, a fox was displayed, while in another that claimed to house a wolf, a domestic dog was found inside. The most bizarre and far-fetched imitation was a big rat pretending to be a snake.

According to an explanation from the zoo authorities, the zoo does actually have all these animals but they had other stuff going on that day and weren’t around. The case has been referred to the Luohe City Forest Bureau for investigation.
