Psychic Panda Cubs to Predict World Cup Victories

Psychic Panda Cubs to Predict World Cup Victories
Jun 05, 2014 By eChinacities.com

The legacy of Paul the Octopus, the unnervingly canny 2010 World Cup soothsayer who sadly passed away the same year, will be continued in China this World Cup season, by a team of baby pandas.

The panda cubs will foresee the results by choosing food from one of three baskets during the initial stages, whilst the knock out rounds will be decided by climbing up trees with the winning country’s flag.

The pandas have some big shoes to fill, as Paul successfully predicted the outcomes of eight matches, causing a media storm, and this amazing headline: ‘Psychic Octopus Paul Unfazed by Death Threats’.

RIP Paul.

Acturally we dont care to much about what foreigners think or like, we local people are so excited , who would say no to a cute baby panda, its not about the prediction or the results, let along whose original idea was, we are just enjoying the process. For those who doesnot know, the Chinese goverment are making big efforts procting the natural habitats of giant panda, the experts are planning to release anothor two capitive born pandas to the wild this fall followed by two have been realeased for the last two years and they have been doing excellent in the wild..... while this reintroducion project is still remain controversial to us, the "Panda kick off "is a way for promotion and raise the pubic awareness, anyway, if you guys are all negative, just dont watch it.

if it is about protecting the panda as you think, why dress it up as a childish World-cup promotion? People should be adult enough to discuss environmental issues without the necessity to copy publicity stunts or use cartoon characters, as seems to be the norm here in China. Treat people like adults, not children. It patronizes the intelligence of people to do otherwise.

how do you assess the psychic ability of a panda cub? Have they a proven track record?

China is that kid in the playground desperate for attention - "look at me! look at me! I'm cool too!"

Isn't the general idea that you advertise their prediction succes AFTER they've at least made a few successful predictions? Sure, baby pandas are cute, and maybe that's enough to get locals excited about the prospect. But besides their guaranteed popularity, what other signs are there that these baby pandas have any aptitude for predicting sports results?
