Chinese Memes: Can You Pass the Bellybutton Test?

Chinese Memes: Can You Pass the Bellybutton Test?
Jun 12, 2015 By eChinacities.com

Can you reach around your back and touch your bellybutton? No? Then, according to Chinese social media, you need to lose some weight. The “bellybutton test,” trending under the hashtag, “If you can reach around your back and touch your bellybutton, then you have a good body,” has exploded on Chinese social media over the past few days.

The theory behind the test, according to Chinese Netizens, comes from a study released by American doctors (yet no one has linked to the report).

Chinese girls have been taking sexy selfies, showing off their slim figures as part of the meme. A number of Chinese celebrities have even joined in. However, a number of Chinese men with beer bellies have also posted pictures of themselves “passing” the test, debunking the pseudo-science behind the trend.

I hope this only applies to women because the skinny guys I see here have nothing to be proud of, they look like 12-years-old boys.

well, slim waists are good, both aesthetics and health wise but flat, flat butts are bad, on men and women

They're pretty quick with the news here... my GF asked me this today and I was a bit confused about why. I didn't come anywhere close to getting my hand to my bellybutton though.

Lol what a load of rubbish. And hashtags (Twitter) is blocked in China. Making it even more ridiculous.
