Chinese folk singer Sa Dingding was caught lip-synching during her performance during the country’s Lantern Festival Gala on Monday. The audience realized that she was faking it when the singer was holding her microphone upside down. Sa Dingding quickly corrected the error, but the damage was done.
The UK’s Daily Mail described the moment was “painfully awkward.” The Daily Mail also published a video of the incident. “The star only realised she was holding her microphone upside down when she began singing. The video shows Sa smiling sheepishly as she quickly reverses her mistake before carrying on with her performance like a true professional as if nothing had happened,” the British site reported.
The issue has been widely discussed on Chinese social media. “This is a whole new level of lip-synching,” commented one Chinese Netizen. Others did not think the incident was a big deal, and questioned why international media was covering it.

Most performances (if not every performance) during the spring festival gala on cctv1 are lip synced. This performer just happened to get caught. I'm ok with lip syncing. Especially considering the context (ie, the gov demands it, you do it). The macy's thanksgiving parade is notoriously awful for it's lip synced performances and that has been a going on for a long time. My wife showed me a performance from a spring festival gala in the 2000's that was a live performance and it was awful. I just assume that if a 'star' is lip syncing, they pretty much can't sing at all. There's a new video bouncing around weibo of a j-pop girls group who have live mics but are sorta half-assing it. The real audio cuts out completely mid-song and you can hear them screeching and howling. They actually start laughing at how bad it sounds. The flawless performance they were just giving while dancing wildly turns into an out of breath, out of tune, 'throw it back to the audience and let them sing for us' fest. Quite entertaining. I'll try to find a link.

Bloody British hypocrites. Lip syncing has always been done on their TV shows such as Top of the Pops and England has Talent.

Yeah, but I think cause I grew up with Top of the Pops I don't particularly care if she lip synced. Now if it was at a concert, where people had paid to see her live, that would be a different issue. As long as she's not doing a Milli Vanilli, it doesn't matter.

How about the fake clapping and cheering from the crowds? No one does it better than China, creating fake celebrities with no talent whatsoever. Of course there are exceptions but you have to get real bro.

Land of fake products. Keeping up a fake persona (aka face). Why should be be surprised by fake singing ? because we shouldn't ! Are the Chinese really surprised by the lip syncing, probably not either!
