Basta! Chengdu Italian Makes Own Portable Air Filter

Basta! Chengdu Italian Makes Own Portable Air Filter
Nov 28, 2014 By eChinacities.com

Meet Mike, an Italian living in Chengdu who recently went viral, not only because he allegedly looks like David Beckham, but also because he made his own air filtration device.

He was first spotted by Netizens near Chengdu Global Center with the device, which looks like a suitcase with a tube coming out of it, strapped on his back. Mike was cycling and breathing clean air at the same time – magical.

Mike decided to make the device because he really cannot stand the smog. That is why he took an air filtration system and transformed it to make it portable with battery pack and an inverter – meaning that the 12V battery pack directly flows into the air filtration system. All together it cost him 1500 RMB to put together.

Some netizens have doubted the truth behind this story, but the real question is, would a system like this yield results?

This is an UPDATE: The guy in the picture looked familiar so I contacted my friend who turned out to be the one in the picture. He said he did this as a modeling job for a company. This is their product, and whoever made up the story that he decided to make the device has too much free time on their hands.

He looks nothing like David Beckham! But then again, this article was translated from some Chinese media source. I guess all us foreigners look the same.

Netizens doubt the the story because Chinese netizens can't do something this guy did. That green monster rears its ugly head again at a foreigner doing something different.
