RomasView In Map

Romas has a 70% expat cliental base and it is one of the places that expats hear or read about before even setting foot in Shenzhen. It is the longest established Western restaurant in Shekou’s Taizi Square (太子广场) with 8 years in business.

The restaurant isn’t very large, on two levels and surrounded by a 2 meter wide covered walkway and several parasol covered seats for outside seating. The small blackboard outside lists the Roma’s Special. The walls are made of wood and stone, with vines growing up the pillars are long French windows which let light into the yellow and orange walls and lamps. It feels very much like a rustic European farm house.

The vast majority of the customers here are expats and some even come everyday, as if it their canteen. The place hasn’t had a facelift in the whole 8 years it’s been open to the point where the wine bottles holding the candles on each table are coated in thick layers of wax, like huge blossoming flowers. Apart from one or two Chinese decorations, the place isn’t really decorated at all. The ceiling is also very high, so it doesn’t get smoky and you can fit more people in than you’d think. The place specializes in Italian, French, American and Swiss food, a true culinary tour de force.

Romas does some of the most popular BBQ ribs in town, and they are certainly a hit with the local American contingent. In fact, the reason they’re so popular is because the ribs and the sauce are all imported from the States. The portions are huge, with 10 ribs each, more than enough for 4 Chinese girls to eat their fill! Enjoy tucking into a juicy rib or munch your way though a succulent Australian import steak while swilling down another beer.

If you add to this the authentic tasting Tiramisu and Lasagna that is cooked to perfection, you have Romas, a true corner of Western food paradise in this southern Chinese city.

This wooden hut that looks like something out of a fantasy novel complete with water wheel and garden boasts that it is the prettiest BBQ restaurant in Shenzhen or even the whole of Guangdong province.

The Wooden House is the place to get ‘all you can meat’ with every type of cut of lamb imaginable, as well as seafood and Middle Eastern style salads that are to die for!

360 DegreesView In Map

360 Degrees is Shenzhen’s answer to Fusion food with soft Chillout tunes. This place is cuisine sans frontiers and with a well blended menu combining East and West it can be very hard to choose what to eat.

An all time favorite is chef Kevin’s Salted Steak. Imported Australian beef steak is cooked to perfection and then finished in imported British sea salt.

The ItalianView In Map

This place screams Italy. The décor is comprised of Italian status, and even the seats are old Italian railway seats. With pizzas, pastas and Angus steaks to kill for, this is another favorite on the expat eating scene that you won’t want to miss.
