Shiliupu WharView In Map
August 28th marked the grand opening of the renovated Shiliupu Wharf “water tourism center” in the South Bund Area. Dating back 150 years, the old wharf was once the busiest place in Shanghai, contributing to the city’s rise from a tiny fishing outpost to a hub of international trade. The original wharf was torn down in 2004 and has been rebuilt as a commercial center. The project, overseen by the Shengjiang Property Management and Operations Company, cost 3 billion RMB to complete and consists of shopping outlets and eateries. The Qiangsheng Ferry Company operates from the wharf and will run 30 routes when fully operational, mainly between the Yangpu and Nanpu Bridges.

Long Bar at the Waldorf Astoria

Reviving the old tradition of lavish hotels on the Bund during Shanghai’s first boom era, the Hilton Hotel Empire is opening a Waldorf Astoria in the modern Pearl of the Orient. Located at number 2 The Bund, the hotel has a series of suites in the historic building, as well as a newly built tower at the back, which will be fully operational by the end of the year. The Waldorf Astoria has recently opened its Long Bar – a renovation of the original Long Bar that was there when the building housed the Shanghai British Gentlemen’s Club in the 1920s. The new Long Bar was created from photographs of the original and was created with meticulous endeavor. A vast menu of cocktails, some of which come from the original New York Waldorf Astoria, an oyster bar and a menu of fusion hors d’oeuvres make the Long Bar a great choice for an evening of luxury.
