Although catching the latest flick in Nanchang may be a bit more expensive than in "the good old days" (due in part to updated facilities), there are still quite a few movie theaters in town that offer discounts for groups, families, and holidays. The following movie theaters in Nanchang are a great choice in terms of price, atmosphere, and movie selection.

Silver Screen Delights: Movie Theaters in Nanchang

1) Huaying International Film City View In Map
Huaying International Film City (华影国际影城) is Nanchang's largest 3D movie centre with a total of 10 screens, six of which are 3D. Each screen has a number of VIP leather recliner seats that are available for an added fee. Depending on whether or not you tend to get neck cramps while staring up at the screen for several hours, the comforts awarded by the recliner seats might just make it worth the price. This theater normally has group discounts available, so be sure to bring your friends and family with you!

Add: 9F, Rainbow Shopping Center, 318 Zhongshan Lu, Donghu District, Nanchang
地址:南昌市东湖区中山路318号,天虹商场9楼
Tel: 791 8677 2828; 8676 7275

Getting there: Take bus No. 5, 25, 33, 228, 229, 232 or 305 to Wazijiao (瓦子角站)

2) Wanda International Film City View In Map
Wanda International Film City (万达国际电影城) is located on the north side of Bayi Square and has seven screens. Last December, an IMAX screen was added to this location—currently the only one in Jiangxi Province. As such, the prices are a bit steep here, although the quality is well worth the added cost. Perhaps to counter the higher ticket prices, Wanda offers discounts on all movies before 13:00 (half price), as well as student tickets and special holiday prices. And if you're interested in doing a quick bit of shopping after the movie, there is a Wal-Mart just downstairs.

Add: 4F, Wanda Commercial Plaza, 333 Bayi Dadao, Donghu District, Nanchang
地址:南昌市东湖区八一大道333号,万达商业广场4楼
Tel: 791 8631 1113

Getting there: Take bus No. 2, 7, 10, 11, 15, 16, 22, 26, 205, 208, 302, 303 or 602 to North Bayi Square (八一广场北站)

3) Zhongyingjing Dianfang Film City View In Map
Zhongyingjing Dianfang Film City (中影今典放电影院) features eight screens, and a selection of movies that is comparable to what you'd find in other major Chinese cities. While the theater may not be as popular as major chains such as the above-mentioned Wanda, this theater does excel in keeping its facilities very clean, even the bathrooms which is quite a rarity in China! Unfortunately, for those planning to participate in a "group buy" to get cheap tickets, the theater tacks on an additional service fee to the discounted price, bringing the cost up to about 40 RMB per ticket.

Add: 4F, Jiaxinmao Square South Park, 81 Jiefang Xi Lu, Xihu District, Nanchang (Near Hongdu Dadaokou)
地址:南昌市西湖区解放西路81号,嘉信茂广场城南苑4楼(近洪都大道口)

Getting there: Take bus No. 10, 11, 110, 119, 122, 123, 129, 132, 133, 205, 207, 216, 226, 231 or 258 to Hongdu Dadaokou (洪都大道口站)

4) Baihuazhou Film City View In Map
Baihuazhou Film City (百花洲电影城) is located on the ever-popular Zhongshan Lu and has six screens available for your viewing pleasure, the largest of which can seat over 200 people. This movie theater is also a great place to bring a date, with smaller screens seating only 60 or so, giving the experience a much more intimate feeling. The complex itself is a bit on the small side, and doesn't offer as many movies as some of the larger movie theaters. Baihuazhou is a bit calmer than Nanchang's other theaters and the price is right for those moviegoers looking to save a couple of RMB, but if you're looking for a more luxurious experience, this probably isn't the place for you.

Getting there: Take bus No. 2, 22 302 or 旅游1 to Baihuazhou (百花洲站)
