Here you'll find an especially dense concentration of cheap clothing markets, mostly destined for export to Africa and Middle Eastern countries. Canaan has been catering primarily to African and Middle Eastern buyers since its opening in 2003, but that doesn't mean other shoppers can't find what they're looking for too. Because these clothes come straight from the factory, prices are often lower than what a clothes outlet might pay from a distributor, so a lot of local storeowners come here to shop as well. Bring your friends if you're all looking for similar items; you might get a group discount from a single store.

Just a stone's throw from Canaan is Tangqi Export Clothes City, where an estimated 30% of clothing is made specifically for South African and Middle Eastern markets. Great deals abound, but you may have trouble bargaining if you're not buying several items at a time. This is also a great place to visit if you want to feel like you're in Africa without leaving Guangzhou; tons of Nigerian businessmen come here daily and there's a very popular African restaurant on the first floor.

Situated right next to Sanyuanli subway station (exit D), Yulong is the most conveniently located market on this list. You'll still have to shop around for the best deals, but expect to find higher all-around quality (and prices) here. Don't be deterred by the “wholesale” signs; most stalls will let you buy individual items, and you can often enjoy wholesale discounts for purchasing just three items.
